The installation frames the landscape within the window’s grid. The lake’s horizon remains fixed, only moving slightly to match the viewer’s line of vision. Air, water and earth seem neatly divided. Striped caution tapes form the alchemist’s symbols on the interior and exterior window panes. Alchemy, a medieval chemistry, focused on discovering a process that would transform base metals into gold. The title implies this transformation of the sign into a cautionary tale by the use of hazard tape as a metaphor for environmental hazards.
